James Guild 28/08/1949 – 1/09/2024

The NZDFA Executive Committee on behalf of all the NZDFA offer its condolences to the Guild family on the passing of James, one of the industry's kaumatua and stalwarts.  James was a past president of the DFA and the Chair of the first World Deer Congress held in Christchurch.

A very moving and tasteful memorial service was held on 11 September at James’ beloved High Peak Station and was attended by Justin Stevens (NZDFA Executive Committee) and Lorna Humm (Canterbury West Coast Chair) and members of the Canterbury West Coast Committee.  DINZ staff were also in attendance: Rhys Griffiths, Luka Jansen and Lindsay Fung.

Those of you who have been fortunate to meet James will know what a loss to the industry his passing is, but also what an incredible legacy and contribution he has made to the industry, deer farmers and the shining exemplar that is High Peak Station.  We hope the family can take some comfort in knowing the great respect and esteem he is held in by the NZDFA and its members.
