Obituary

Warren William Moyes

1938 -28/9/2024

Warren was a man not afraid of challenges, from his early days of a child in West Auckland to a rugby scholarship to Berkley University USA. Traveling in a USA university team to play in Australia and NZ also playing gridiron. Also while there he met his wife Barbara, bringing her back to NZ .

His life was full: Teacher, restaurateur, marine chandlery, service station owner, director, yachting – both pleasure and racing, fishing  and hunting (ducks and deer).

Then in 1988 he purchased a deer farm in Ruatangata to fulfill a dream to become a farmer, it did take some convincing of both Barbara and daughters Tracy and Jacqui to move to the north.

He became involved in the Northland Branch NZDFA, becoming Chairman and bringing with him a leadership skill that made everyone feel involved, this led to him standing for the NZ Game Industry Board in 1998 and remaining through to the Deer Industry NZ board until 2006.

At this time he was also a company director for various companies. One of his achievements during this time was the chairmanship of Northpower taking it from a small power company to a leading electricity network contractor in NZ, Australia and Tonga over 20 years.

When in farming mode There was no backing down, He thrived on adrenaline and not afraid of the deer – there was a few times the deer won!

Always looking for that adrenaline rush he took up hunting with the hounds, not the most graceful of riders but up the front giving it everything. Including a few hospital visits and stays.

Respected by those who knew him.

A life full of challenges accepted and adrenaline in both business and sport.
